Well, we do have LuaRocks, which I think was inspired by Ruby Gems.
What we don't have is a collaborative space around it. I think anyone
can get hosting/RCS these days, but we're feeling the need for
something more friendly and less bureaucratic than LuaForge. (And that
site is heading for retirement anyway.)
Github is great and I'm glad I made the switch, but it has some
irritating habits. Like semi-randomly assigning a language to a
project ;)
