Lua Binaries

If you would like to build or embed Lua yourself you may want to look at notes on BuildingLua. Modified versions of Lua with extra functionality can be found on LuaAddons.

Many of the links below are out of date. See instead the [LuaForge Lua Binaries project], which provides binary releases for many platforms including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Static and dynamic libraries are available for several compilers.

ATARI TOS / Mint

• [Binaries for ATARI TOS / Mint] The binaries were compiled using Pure C.

BeOS

• [The bebits.com page for Lua 5.0.2] The latest BeOS port of Lua in a zipped, Software Valet package. BeOS R5 is required. August 18, 2006

Linux

• See [LuaForge Lua Binaries project] for the most recent versions for Linux.
• [Linux RPMs for Lua 5.0.2] The Lua system and standard libraries are supplied as shared libraries. The binary RPMs were built on Fedora Core/i386 1. (not existing anymore, 22.11.2005 - try [Lua for many distros rpms]
• Debian Packages for [Lua 5.0.3] and [Lua 5.1.2]. Packaged to Debian's usual high standards. The Lua team was informative and helpful in this work. There are also Lua 4.0 packages called [lua40].
• [ARM binary] Binary file of the Lua interpreter compiled for ARM linux handhelds, such as the Sharp Zaurus.
• [SH3 binary] Binary file of the Lua interpreter compiled for SH3 port of linux for handhelds such as the Jornada 680 (not for Windows CE!).
• [Slackware Linux Packages for Lua] Lua package (5.1.2) for Slackware 12.0 and -current versions.

Mac OS 9

• [Lua 5.0/5.1 for Mac OS 9/Mac OS X] Carbon build of lua/luac, with libraries/headers and luaglut.

Mac OS X

• See [LuaForge Lua Binaries project] for the most recent versions for Mac OS X.
• [Lua 5.0.2 Framework Build] Binary and source available.
• [Fink] lua51 is in stable, 5.1.2 has been sent in 10-Apr-07, do sudo fink install lua51

PlayStation2

• [PlayStation2 binaries]. This package contains the lua-5.0.2 distribution compiled for PlayStation2 using the free sdk at [ps2dev website]. Note this is really early "port", and it needs testing before saying it's a stable binary distribution.

Windows

• See [LuaForge Lua Binaries project] for the most recent versions for Windows.
• [Win32 binaries]. This package contains the lua and luac executables and release, and debug versions of the lua.lib and lualib.lua libraries. These were compiled using Lua Build 5 [1] which contains make files for MSVC6 and posix.
• [PhiLhoSoft] Precompiled binaries for Windows. There is LuaExe-5.0.2.zip with Lua.exe and LuaC.exe plus manual and registry file, and LuaBinaries-5.0.3.zip with the same exe, DLLs, libraries for static or dynamic linking, etc.

• Please only add links to the latest version of Lua.
• Only add vanilla versions of Lua, i.e. with minimal or no changes. Slight modification purely to allow execution on a particular platform is clearly acceptable. Sweeping changes and added features mean you are developing your own distribution, which should be added to LuaAddons.
