I think Roberto got it exactly; Go's designers knew exactly what spot
they were aiming for, and achieved. It's true that very few would
take it seriously if it wasn't a Google-sponsored project that didn't
involve Rob Pike and Ken Thompson, which is equivalent to a Led
Zeppelin reunion gig ;)
