When I implemented such a system, they were described by string_cst nodes. The only things not represented were preprcoessor macros, since they don't really exist at a low level, but they were easily extracted separately using a preprocessor dump.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't appear in your dumps, because otherwise, your compiler shouldn't work :)
