Moreover, PiL is an advanced text.  I found I had to start reading
slowly, preferably with a Lua window open, as early as page 14.

There is certainly a need for a good Lua tutorial, one that assumes 
the reader knows no C, Python, Java or Scheme, and has never heard of 
garbage collectors.  

There is nothing to prevent you, or anyone else, from writing it.  
If it is good enough, O'Reilly will snap it up.
