The "closed development" is in the sense that although design is
influenced by the community, design decisions and implementation are
only done by the core team (not design by committee), apparently to
maintain a certain consistency. Here, "Lua" refers only in a narrow
sense to the official version of the core language implementation;
Libraries, forks, reimplementations, and distributions may do whatever
they want. Some comments on the Lua development model, including on a
