It is perhaps slightly surprising that sandboxing Lua is quite simple,

continue to receive high priority as the Lua packaging system develops.
Speaking of which, has anyone done any work on a "sandboxed" version of
the os library? Something that constrains what the user can do to a set
of directories or a set of restrictive permissions, or even one that
prevents writing entirely. If this were a drop-in replacement for the os
library, it could help a lot with this sort of sandboxing.
