Regarding Lua's fat or lack of, I sometime feel that Lua tries to be too clever by half (e.g. list as table) :P

That said, I do feel that there is a bit too much syntactical (synthetical?) sugar...

print "hello" vs print( "hello" ) would at first glance look like a pointless and confusing deviation from the norm.

YMMV.
