Well... personally... I found it quite difficult to get started with
Lua as well... due perhaps to the language intrinsic amorphism...
Your best bet is to order Roberto's book as it brings some sense and
purpose to the language:

The manual itself is much less useful, but has the merit of existing in
the first place:

The wiki has some handy resources as well:

That said, the wiki is pretty much opaque at first glance, as there is
no search function to start with... very frustrating :/
