I agree this is far overdue, and I hope this will be included as a standard 
system.

Lets face it, the only way anything ever gets agreed on here is if it comes 
from the Lua authors, the current state of modules etc is testimony to why 
we need this badly.

Don't forget consistant Lua dll/so naming while you're at it; binary modules 
need to link against the same lua runtime.
