Note, that is not what dry means when referring to writing. Dry writing is accurate but perhaps not engaging or creative. It’s admitting that like many references, it may not be fun to read. It makes no sense for a reference manual to admit to being unsuccessful at documenting the topic sufficiently.

Note: the manual referring to itself as dry is a great example of it being witty and engaging. I’d prefer not to lose that wit due to people misrepresenting it as an admittance that the manual is inaccurate.
