This thread has evolved into "let's discuss specifically what APIs we want to consider 'standard'". LuaSocket might well serve that purpose, but it can't just be assumed blindly.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, since I don't even think it's a fruitful avenue of discourse, but I do get the idea.
