Many other people like them. The ability to make function calls which
look sort of like constants makes code look pretty.
This sort of syntactic nicety is particularly important in a language
often used for initialization or other "data" files, where some "source
files" may use no variables at all!
You are free not to use them of course, but I think they're wayyy too
much of part of Lua culture to be casually removed from the language.
