I've had the good fortune to take Programming Languages courses from Dan Friedman (fun course; essentially the Dan Friedman spin on Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs), and I definitely enjoyed what I read of The Reasoned Schemer. I think it'd be hard to go wrong with the Little Schemer series or SICP.
