Theoretically this is a superficial transformation, but I take the
point about people using surface syntax for deeper semantic clues.

It could be very useful if you didn't call it Lua.  The
other day somebody on the list had a use for something like
this

Truth is, there is a lot of time wasted on embeded
programming languages due to legacy reasons. In many of
those cases, I suspect it would be possible to support the
required semantics with Lua constructs, if only it was
possible to translate their syntax in a simple way.  Maybe
there is a niche for Lua-based languages here.

Take a look at metalua http://metalua.luaforge.net/ from
something that is deeper than skin.
