Well, I fixed a few bugs, and I'm fairly confident that this is a
(mostly) working solution! Naturally, anyone is welcome to try the code
out and report back. I tried to keep it as clean as possible, but Lua
just isn't designed to handle errors quite like this, so the changes got
a little verbose.
