It's also the name of a query language used by information servers on the web,
although I suspect this use is obsolete:

In addition, IDL is a common term in this domain (it refers a standardised
method for describing RPC calls) and is probably best avoided in names unless
you're actually doing something similar. It doesn't help that there's also an
unrelated actual programming language called IDL, too.
