Worth noting perhaps... anyone considering such a port might want to talk

They produce a game engine called Unity - this is one of the
highest-profile products that embeds the open source Mono CLR
implementation and it is considered something of a flagship product by the
Mono community.
They currently offer C#, JavaScript and Boo for scripting and so it would
presumably be a boost to them if they could also add Lua (the industry
standard game scripting language) to the list. The JavaScript they use is
actually a from-scratch implementation with "enhanced" syntax that they
commissioned themselves. Maybe they would be willing to
sponsor/assist/advise a CLR-native port of Lua if it was pitched to them
the right way.
