Yes, I remember that. :)

But what I was asking for, was simply to add the _targets_ 
to the Makefile, even though Lua wouldn't be using them 
itself (= they wouldn't be integrated with make install or 
such).

This would serve as sort of documentation for people 
needing those magic flags.

Just my 5c  (Finland doesn't have 2c, that's why our 
opinions matter more... ;)
