There was a bug in dofile in Lua 4 that could cause
dofile to reference the file name string _after_ it
had been garbage collected. Could it be related to
your problem? Then the solution is simple: download
the latest 4.0.1 release (it contains some other fixes
as well.) We use it all the time and have never run
into any kind of trouble!
