I just realized I had no idea how he looked, how old he was
or where he lived until today despite having exchanged emails
with him from time to time for almost 10 years. It makes me
kind of sad I never got the opportunity to meet him in the flesh.

Among other things his page on Lua 5.2 bytecode had been very
useful to me, to the point that I mirrored it to my personal server
at the time. Apparently it was a good thing, because the original
appears to be gone and my copy [1] is now the N.2 result when
googling "dirk laurie lua".

Condolences to everyone who knew him.
