and I don't see mention of Lua 5.2 or higher.  Also, there isn't much
description about what LuaPlus actually offers.  The code seems to be 50% C
and 50% C++ with a seemingly scary amount of IDE specific files.
Yes, LuaPlus has Lua 5.3 working under Linux. Or, at least, it is working fine under Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 17.10, the last two versions I tested against, Ubuntu 17.10 being just last night.
I do not know what you are referring to as a scary amount of IDE specific files. Would you care to elaborate? I also don't know what 50% C and 50% C++ has to do with anything.
