Hello all,
I'll be giving a introductory presentation to my fellow CS classmates on Lua for my Programming Languages undergraduate course. I would be more than pleased to receive some feedback on what differentiates Lua from other languages out there. Also, it would be great (and perhaps unlikely, I realize) to have a personal statement from Mr. Ieusalimschy himself for my class and professor! What aspects of Lua should my presentation focus on? This is a small way for me to help Lua get some positive exposure among up and coming programmers at the second largest university in the US (University of Central Florida). Thanks!
Also, as an aside, just wondering if anyone has thoughts on the implementation of Lua in the iOS Codea app. Thanks!

A few items to start you off:

(1) There is a history of Lua paper at lua.org, also many docs and see the news too for titbits (e.g. Game Developer magazine's 2011 Front Line Award).

(2) Make sure you see Marbux's awesome list:
https://sites.google.com/site/marbux/home/where-lua-is-used

(3) So the entire class has likely spent countless hours on apps and games that use Lua. That's likely the area where Lua first touched their lives.

(4) Lua may not look like it's gonna storm any of the popularity contests like TIOBE anytime soon, but who cares, IMHO Lua users are too busy building apps to devote time to popularity propaganda.
