Note that both Firefox and Chrome have been optimizing for the pattern of compiled C/C++ to JS for a while now (Google added a benchmark of it to Octane, for example), and more recently both browsers have optimized for asm.js code which is a specific formalization of that pattern. These optimizations are quite new though, and not yet in a release version of either browser. So the results would be much better in the dev builds of those two browsers. (And those optimizations will reach a stable release over the next few months.)
I think we can expect this to eventually run pretty well in all browsers, because of the friendly competition on JS speed. Basically half the speed of a native build of the same Lua code is what I would expect (that's what Firefox Nightly does now).
