Thanks for your "incites" on MISRA C. :-)

However, the goal here is to see if the Lua interpreter / compiler can be DO-178 certified. 

Use of MISAR C is "suggested", not mandatory.

MISRA C, known to some as MISERABLE C, is a subset of C where all the
features that people who shouldn't be programming use incorrectly are
forbidden.

Moving Lua to it would be a drawn-out and deeply unpleasant exercise, I
suspect.
