Not an incredible amount, but some. It mainly consists of the initial
application, selection of projects, and assignment of mentors. Most of
this is managed through a web interface provided by Google.

Note that many of the tasks there can in large part be carried out by
the community - e.g. the XMPP Standards Foundation just issues a call
for project proposals from all interested XMPP projects. People put
the ideas up onto a wiki page, and this page is linked in the
application submitted to Google. Similarly, mentors from the community
and the proposed projects would sign up and take part in the selection
of proposals once student applications are in.
