By the way, you could inverse the question and ask: why is Lua so widely used ?
Back in 1993, when Lua authors designed the language for PETROBRAS and
maybe for internal TecGraf project, they never thought, nor even
*dream*, that Lua would have such a world success.
Lua was designed for a dozen programmers in mind; it is now used by
several thousand people, not even all programmers.
This is quite a great success actually; being the mainstream language
wouldn't necessarily be an advantage for us.
