speaking of Qt: I heard some disheartening rumors lately about Nokia
putting Qt development on back burner after its MS deal. What is your
take on Qt viability for the next 3 to 5 years?

Qt for mobile is in a pretty cloudy situation (since Nokia was boosting it).

But for desktop it seems to be safe:
