Why people see these numbers as floating point numbers? I don't believe they have been designed this way.
What about 2.8.1 (Scala)? And 7.0.5730.13 see on Internet Explorer?

Of course, there are precedents inducing confusion, like Microsoft jumping Windows from 3.1 to 3.11...
