People may also be interested in Skia, which is Google's graphics
library used in Android and Chromium. In the usual incestuous nature of
open source projects Skia can either do its own rendering or go via some
other route --- IIRC OpenGL or Cairo were mentioned. I'm sure AGG or Fog
could be used as well.

It's kind of undocumented, although the API headers are well commented,
but I've been working with it recently on Android and it's fairly
pleasant (apart from an insistence on using premultiplied colours in
bitmaps with alpha).

I think AGG produces much better quality output, but then Skia is
intended for 'live' use while AGG appears intended for offline use.
