To reiterate, even if you don't use LuaRocks, you can grab the rock
and unpack it (it's just a zip file)

The repository has a nice index.html, so if you go to:

http://www.luarocks.org/repositories/rocks/

in your browser, you can see in the column down the right-hand side
you will see links like ' rockspec, src, win32-x86'; anything that
isn't 'rockspec' is the actual rock.  Just ask for rock files to be
opened with WinZip or the equivalent, and you will see the
source/binary tarball inside it.
