That's puzzling. Typo3 being an open-source PHP cms application, and

When a company sponsors a ship, a soccer or bicycle team, they are rarely related to the activity. Why should a software company be necessarily related to the project they choose to sponsor?

If all your business is about PHP, why would you want to sponsor Lua?
Usually, as a company, you sponsor a project because you have an interest in doing so, here I don't see it at first glance. There is not necessarily a reason behind that, I am asking because I am curious and because my company is also a "php shop" and I have recently found a big interest in Lua.

Or perhaps they plan to port TYPO3 to Kepler? :P

Porting Drupal would be more intersting and would fit Lua better IMO, but let's not start the CMS war :)
