sputnik installation w/ apache

Hi list,
I don't know a whole lot about webservers and the like, so this
question might seem kind of basic.  I have access to a webserver
running apache and I want to install Sputnik on it.  From everything
I've seen, Sputnik is using Xavante as a webserver.  Is it possible
(or better yet is it wise) to instead use apache?  What would I be
gaining/losing by using apache.  Thanks for any info!
