I do not think I am unbiased enough to present the best arguments. I
hope other people in this list can give you more convincing arguments
based on real uses (as Ralph Hempel already did).

You may also consult independent benchmarks to see how much resources
(mainly cpu time and memory) different languages (and different
programmers ;) need for some simple tasks. (A famous one is
http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/).
