Between the Triassic and Jurassic period (really in the 1970s), IBM 
developed a technology known as VTAM (Virtual Telecommunication Access 
Method). It identified devices and applications as "Logical Units".
That is the origin of "Logical Unit Application"...   Believe me: I used 
it.  ;-)
