If this forum were mirrored on a web forum that would be okay I guess.. in
fact isn't it already on yahoo groups or somesuch?

I would definitely NOT be in favour of a separate forum.  The community is
not big enough to start splitting up; it would be better to keep the
expertise and exchange of information in a central place.
