I've restored LuaLicense, a historical page on this site, to its prior version from 2008. I was closely involved with lobbying to change Lua's license at the time, and the information on that page represents some of the specific arguments made by the community (e.g. the text beginning "While such a proprietary license is convenient for Tecgraf and PUC-Rio lawyers..." which you deleted).
The text of the old license itself was "proprietary" in that it was one-off language crafted exclusively by PUC-Rio and not used by other open source projects. The term proprietary was not referring to the software itself nor the privileges granted by the license.
