I just discovered this today: https://tcc.lovebyte.party
It is a series of small challenges in the form of an advent calendar that you can do using one of two virtual consoles (TIC-80 and PICO-8) using Lua. TIC-80 is Open Source whereas PICO-8 is commercial but has a free educative version.
I haven't done any video game development in a long time, I think I may try my hand at the TIC-8 version. :)
