- Subject: Re: [ANN] Lua 5.4.0 (rc3) now available

We are close to freezing Lua 5.4.0. This is the time to report
glitches and bugs. This is not the time to propose new features or
internal improvements. We welcome these for later releases of Lua.
Nevertheless, the way to get our attention about any issue is to post
a simple message describing the issue, with reproducible code and
ideally with an analysis of the causes, some fixes, and hard data on
performance from actual tests. Huge messages and long threads are not
effective because good ideas and legitimate concerns get lost in the
noise.
We also welcome the newcomers to this list. But we cannot revisit
every design decision we have made. Unless there are good alternatives
supported by hard data. Lua is a well-crafted piece of engineering
that has consistent good performance. There are tradeoffs. Not every
good theoretical idea fits well in practice when simpler alternatives
exist.
We thank everyone for the feedback on Lua 5.4.0 and in general.
