The idea is to be a tad more explicit to avoid backslash style string
escape sequence connotations that may be present to educated users when
reading this.  While valid backslash style string escape sequences are
listed elsewhere in the manual and \] and \- aren't part of that
enumeration, being explicit here might spare the reader one detour
through the manual.
