This is about nil as value, not key.

In the linked post there is a proposal to make nil a valid key. My post is about the inconsistency between behaviour of Lua when using nil/NaN as key when setting and when getting a value, and making nil/NaN a completely valid key is only one of solutions, which probably won't get implemented if it was proposed almost 9 years ago.
I agree that the topic header is slightly misleading.
