Very little will be saved, which makes me think that these chaps may
stay, since they are no burden.  By same token, adding extra math
functions when available (C99) would not affect the executable much.

I note that Lua is getting a little fat (240Kb on Linux, compared to
200Kb Lua 5.2.3 with luabuild, which may not be a completely
apples-to-apples comparison.)  This is ok because (a) can leave stuff
out and (b) she's getting taller ;)

However, a consequence of built-in bit operators means that they
cannot be removed so easily, if so desired.
