This idea has been around for a long time:

(of course, the numbers now are slightly different.)

But Lua 5.2 did not include an etc/ directory and so many people probably
do not know about this. It's a good opportunity to move this stuff to
http://www.lua.org/extras/5.2/ where it can be updated independently of
the Lua tarball.
