If you were emulating function wrappers (decorators in Python) and you
wanted to do it with a chain of enclosing tables, this would not be
possible. Why disallow an expected behavior like this arbitrarily?
Anyway, there's another posting on this list about why metatables can't
have metatables. Raw access on metatables is inflexible.
