It can run under both 5.1 and 5.2 (haven't checked with 'no compat' mode recently) but currently needs='lua' means Lua 5.1.

To build against 5.2, just set LUA_INCLUDE_DIR accordingly (and LUA_LIB_DIR as well for Windows)

Glad you like it - the Lua detection code could do with some review (update_lua_flags) I think!
