I can't say whether I'd use a LuaOS without the Java dependency, but
yes, pulling in something as heavy and cruft-laden as Java just to get
Swing seems like a Terrible Idea, enough so that I'm not interested in
even playing with LuaOS.

Obviously it's your (Stefan) project, and you can do with it what you
like. But if you want Lua fans to be excited about it, get rid of the
Java dependency. That would likely cut the size in half or better,
regardless. :)
