I wouldn't have throught they were compsulory. Many web servers manage
with just one thread per CPU (such as thttpd, Zeus and Cherokee) and
they're doing quite complex data processing with it, too.
(Pepperfish once got Slashdotted, and service continued just fine; and
that was with Zeus on a 600MHz Duron many moons ago.)
