Switzerland sounds intriguing. One question though:
As a mono-lingual American (meaning English-speaking ;-)) who hasn't been to Europe before, how much difficulty would I have as a traveller to Switzerland given my language impediment?
Absolutely none. Everyone here speaks english.

I am all for Switzerland, if only for the very selfish reason that it is on the continent I live on and thus gives me a chance to attend. Plus, it is quite pretty :)
