My 2c:
I sometimes use markdown2pdf from pandoc package.
It takes Markdown text (optionally with LaTeX embedded inside) and
converts it to PDF.
Note that, for complex cases — especially if you generate the source,
— it is easier to use raw LaTeX than to fight with conversions — you
have more control over the result.
