Well, honestly, that "'debug' does not exist" political line is non-sensical. If it's there, it's going to be used. If Lua's authors feel otherwise, then debug shouldn't be there at all. That dance between "it's there, but don't use it" is ridiculous.

Sure, but it's more than a political line. Is the recommended practice [1]

I prefer to not use it if possible.
